111 works on H3llo lines. While the power’s on.
You can ring 111 from a H3llo phone line whenever the service is up. It runs over the internet, so it needs power and a working connection at your end. In a power cut or an internet outage it may not work. Keep a charged mobile handy.
What stops working
If any of this is down, you may not be able to ring 111 on your H3llo line.
- 01
Your desk phone and the gear behind it
Desk phones, cordless phones, the fibre box on the wall (ONT), the router and the Wi‑Fi all run on mains power. When it goes, they go.
- 02
The internet connection
Even with a charged laptop or a battery-backed phone, a VoIP call needs a working connection. No internet, no call.
- 03
The H3llo Phone app
The app needs data. For 111 from a mobile, use your phone’s own dialler, not the app. It goes over the mobile network and can use another network if yours isn’t in range.
Have another way to reach 111 that doesn’t need mains power: a charged mobile is the usual one. Make sure everyone at the site knows to use it.

Under the Commerce Commission’s 111 Contact Code, you may qualify if someone who lives at your premises is at particular risk of needing 111 because of their health, safety or a disability, and has no other way to reach 111 that keeps working for at least eight hours in a power cut.
H3llo is your provider, so ask us, not Hero. Ring us and we’ll make sure you have a way to call 111 that doesn’t depend on mains power.
