Business phone systems and fibre on the Kāpiti Coast, compared.

Looking at business phones in Paraparaumu, or fibre for a shop in Waikanae or Ōtaki? Here are the three decisions Kāpiti businesses actually make, what to ask any provider, and how H3llo answers. Prices are monthly, excl. GST.

1 · Answering

How your calls get answered.

Every Kāpiti business loses some work to calls nobody picks up: on site, on the road, or already on the other line. There are three common answers.

AI receptionist

From $75/month
Good at
  • Answers every call, any hour, several at once up to your plan's limit.
  • Looks the caller up and writes a real job into Fergus, Simpro, Tradify, iTrade or Graft.
  • Quotes only the rates you allow, and flags urgent calls to your on-call phone.
  • Summary by email and text after every call, or only when it's urgent.
Watch for
  • It hands over rather than guesses: prices it wasn't given, diagnoses and upset callers go to a person.
  • It isn't a 111 service.
  • It needs setting up around your business. We do that, but it takes a conversation.

Human answering service

Good at
  • A person on the line, which some callers prefer.
  • Good with unusual calls that don't fit a script.
Watch for
  • Check how it's priced: per call, per minute or a package, and what after-hours costs.
  • Check whether messages go into your job system or arrive as notes you retype.
  • Check whether they can quote your rates or tell urgent from routine.

Voicemail

Free
Good at
  • Costs nothing and needs no setup.
  • Fine for a business that gets very few calls.
Watch for
  • You find out about the job when you listen, which may be after the caller has rung someone else.
  • Nothing is captured unless the caller leaves a clear message.
2 · Phone system

What runs your phone system.

Many Kāpiti businesses still run an on-site PBX. Cloud phones move the same job off the wall.

Cloud phone system

From $30/month
Good at
  • Nothing on the wall to fail or back up. Handsets and the H3llo Phone app connect from wherever they are.
  • We build the hunt groups, queues, menu and after-hours schedules, and change them when you ring.
  • Keep your numbers: we port landlines, 0800s and mobiles.
  • The AI receptionist sits inside the same system, not bolted on top.
Watch for
  • It depends on your internet connection, so the connection matters.
  • A monthly fee instead of hardware you've already paid for.

On-site PBX

Good at
  • If it's paid off and working, it costs little to keep.
  • Works with the handsets you already have.
Watch for
  • Hardware ages, and a fault can mean a site visit.
  • Calls stay where the phones are plugged in.
  • Check the handset rental or maintenance contract term before you commit to another one.

Business Freedom 300

A full cloud phone system for a small crew.

excl. GST

  • Full cloud business phone system

Business Freedom 600

$60/month

excl. GST
  • 2 regional phone numbers
  • 5 channels (simultaneous calls)
  • 600 min outbound calling
  • 20 extensions
  • Full cloud business phone system
3 · Internet

Who supplies your business fibre.

Business fibre on the Kāpiti Coast runs over the same local network whoever you buy it from. The difference is the plan, who answers when it drops out, the contract, and how many bills you end up with.

We sell fibre across the coast, with wireless over the mobile network for addresses the fibre doesn't reach, and satellite kit for the places neither does. Unlimited data on fibre. When the internet and the phones come from the same people, nobody gets to blame the other one.

4 · Mobile

Mobiles for the vans, on the same bill.

One provider or several

A local stack, or a patched-together one.

Both work. Here's the honest version of each.

One local provider

Good at
  • AI answering, cloud phones, fibre and mobile on one invoice.
  • One number to ring when something breaks, and a team at 34 Howell Road, Paraparaumu Beach.
  • The answering, the phones and the connection are set up together, by the people who support them.
Watch for
  • Everything rides on one relationship. Ask how faults are handled before you move it all.
  • You don't have to move everything at once, and you don't have to move everything at all.

Separate providers

Good at
  • Keep a provider you're happy with for one part.
  • A business with sites across the country may want a national carrier's account management.
Watch for
  • Separate accounts and invoices.
  • When calls drop, the phone provider and the internet provider can each point at the other.
  • An answering service still needs your calls forwarded to it by whoever runs your phones.
Before you sign anything

What to ask any Kāpiti provider.

Ask us these too. Our answers are in the last column.

What happens to a call nobody answers?
That's the job you lose. Voicemail, a call centre and an AI agent all handle it differently.
H3llo: The agent answers it, books the job and sends you the summary.
Can I keep my number?
It's on your van, your invoices and every directory listing.
H3llo: Yes. We port landlines, 0800s and mobiles, or add a local number.
Is there a lock-in contract?
A long term with an exit fee is hard to leave if it isn't working.
H3llo: No lock-in contract and no termination fee on the AI receptionist.
Who do I ring when it breaks?
Faults that bounce between providers take longest to fix.
H3llo: 0800 242 026, answered 24/7, and an office on the coast in business hours.
Are the prices monthly, and do they include GST?
Weekly figures and GST-inclusive figures make plans hard to compare.
H3llo: Monthly, excl. GST, invoiced monthly in advance.

Questions

Phones and fibre questions.

What's the difference between a cloud phone system and a PBX?
A PBX is the box that routes your calls between lines and extensions. An on-site PBX lives in your building; a cloud phone system runs the same job on a provider's servers, so your desk phones and the app connect to it over the internet from wherever they are.
Is business fibre on the Kāpiti Coast different depending on who I buy it from?
The fibre itself is the same local network whichever retailer you buy from. What changes is the plan, the support when something breaks, the contract, and whether it's on the same bill as your phones.
Can I keep my existing business number?
Yes. We port landlines, 0800 numbers and mobile numbers across, or add a new local number alongside the one you have.
Do I have to take everything from H3llo?
No. Take the AI receptionist on its own, the phone system on its own, or the lot. One bill is an option, not a condition.
Do the prices on this page include GST?
No. Every price is monthly and excludes GST, taken from H3llo's product catalogue. The copy was checked on 2 October 2026; the pricing page always has the current figures.
Which network do H3llo mobile plans use?
H3llo mobile plans run on the Spark and 2degrees networks and are 5G ready.
